Welcome to our history page.

Why is it called the Old North State Land Rover Society?

The Society's founder wanted to make sure that there was a connection to North Carolina's past.  What better way to accomplish that than to provide the society with a name used through North Carolina's history.  The Old North State, a named used with affection when talking about this great state.  Such a name would establish a tradition for this group. A tradition of leadership, of character, and of pride. Some folks have asked "Why can't we have an acronym for the society's name?"  I admit that ONSLRS is tough to get off the tongue.  So instead of an acronym, just try referring to the society as the Old North State.  It is a name that has been said with pride for a very long time; it should do us nicely.

In the 1660s England established a royal colony called Carolina in the New World. The colony was named for King Charles I of England. The word Carolina is from the word Carolus, the Latin form of Charles.

When Carolina was divided in the early 1700s, the southern part was called South Carolina and the northern or older settlement was called North Carolina, or the "Old North State." This title, the Old North State, is one nickname often given to the state. A song by that title is the official state song and can be found at this link.

Please feel free to look at all the Old North State has been up to over the last few years.
